Marine Damage Surveys are completed to determine and describe the nature, extent, and likely cause of damage to a yacht or other vessel. Marine damage surveys are performed to assess the extent of damage and the proximate cause of a vessel related accident. The survey is specifically focused on the damage and its effect on the value of the vessel. The marine surveyor examines and reports on the condition of the vessel, the probable cause of the damage, recommended repairs, and an estimate of the cost of such repairs. Multiple people are often interviewed to understand the nature of the accident and to gather evidence.
Damage surveys are often requested by insurance companies, owners, and managers and assist in the settlement of insured damage claims and the preparation of detailed repair specifications.
